Apologies

Friday 4 May 2012

Salaams.

Dearest and sincere apologies for the Jumma running late on Friday. The Union cancelled the Riley Smith hall without informing us as apparently there some posh opera running, also khutbah for the first Jumma at 1:15pm went 25mins over. Both were outside our direct control, but nevertheless still our responsibility. Sorry if you were late to a seminar/lecture/work/dinner date and sorry if you had to wait outside in the cold with temperamental brothers. Any feedback/comments/thoughts can be emailed to info@leedsisoc.com and Inshallah we are willing to meet up for those brothers that were affected.

And they planned and Allah (also) planned, and Allah is the best of planners.

My year in the ISoc limelight!

Tuesday 24 April 2012

Last year I made the decision to run for sports officer for the Islamic Society at the University of Leeds.  I had a full time job and was at university part-time so why did I go for the position?

During my first two years as a full time student I found that there were two social events which a majority of people did at university. One was to go drinking and the other was to play sports.

During my first year there were no sports organised by the isoc. There were no muslims on my course either so I had to make friends with non muslims. I would play sports with them but it was always awkward when they wanted to go to the pub after a game of squash or badminton.  I knew my religious obligations but I also wanted to make friends and not make a scene.

There was an isoc sports officer for my 2nd and 3rd year at university but the sports organised was random and always poorly attended. You couldn’t play football...

ISoc Annual General Meeting 2012/13

Tuesday 3 April 2012

Coming soon we have the Islamic Society’s Annual General Meeting, where the new ISoc committee is elected. This is also your chance to put forward your views and ask questions about the performance of ISoc this year! It's on Tuesday 24th April @ 5.30pm in The Yorkshire Bank Lecture Theatre (Business School). We'll bring the biscuits and hope to see you there.

Anyone who will be a student at Leeds University next year is allowed to run for the committee. This is your chance to help run the Islamic Society and represent the 3000 odd Muslim students on campus. If you would like to get involved but don't want an official committee position, join the volunteer subcommittee.
