I pray that you are in good health InshaAllah. As a muslim medical student, I would like to offer some information regarding an issue that affects muslim women who are studying medicine or hope to pursue a hospital based career. As you may or may not know, there is a rule "bare below the elbows" which means all health care professionals (including students) must be exposed from below elbows. This caused a lot of fury amongst muslim women who defended their religious rights Alhamdulillah. As a consequence, the department of health issued revised guidelines for muslim women last year to allow them to wear elasticated oversleeves thus allowing us to preserve our modesty and follow our faith.

However, many sisters are unaware of these new guidelines and feel obliged to roll up their sleeves. I am not aware if this concern has been addressed at your university and if it hasn't I was hoping this information could be shared with the sisters at your university for their benefit. If you decide to do so, here is the link for the guidelines as proof for sisters to show to their colleagues who may pressure them. Below is a link to one of the many online suppliers of these oversleeves as most hospitals (to my knowledge) do not provide them. http://www.ccsdirect.co.uk/disposable-clothing-oversleeves-c-16_156.html

Finally, if there are any enquiries I am more than happy to help InshaAllah and i can be contacted via my email sruqayyah@hotmail.co.uk

Thank you
