Philosophically, the most certain concept of life... is death. We must all die at some point, and for this we must prepare. Just like in taking our exams and preparing for a football match, if we fail to prepare, we are preparing to fail.
We must apply this to our life, for we will be standing before Allah, and if we have not prepared for that day then it is too late. You have one lifetime to prepare. We can earn a halaal living and enjoy this world, but only if it will not stop our preparation for the next i.e don't get too carried away and remember our islamic teachings.
The solution to this, is to bring Salaat into our lives. Salaat is the mark of Islaam and is a gift to the muslims. Through salaat, we can realise the importance of Islaam and properly prepare for the day of judgement.
I would like to close on sharing a hadith:
Abu Zar RadiyAllahu `anhu narrates that once the Prophet Sallallahu `alaihi wasallam came out of his house. It was autumn and the leaves were falling off the trees. He caught a branch of a tree and its leaves began to drop in large number. At this he remarked, 'O, Abu Zar! when a Muslim offers his salat to please Allah, his sins are shed away from him just as these leaves are falling off this tree.' (Ahmad)
